Xbox Rolls Out Global Disc-to-Digital Feature for Series X and Xbox One Owners

Microsoft is rolling out its Disc-to-Digital feature globally, allowing Xbox Series X and Xbox One owners to convert physical game discs into digital licenses.

Following a brief testing phase with Xbox Insiders, Microsoft is officially launching its Disc-to-Digital feature worldwide for all Xbox Series X and Xbox One owners. As detailed by GameRant, players who download the latest system update can now insert a physical disc and claim a digital license, freeing them from the need to keep the disc in the tray for future sessions. If the automated on-screen notification does not appear upon inserting a game, users can simply hover over the game icon, press the menu button, and manually select the prompt to claim their digital copy.

While the convenience is a massive win for players looking to transition their physical libraries into all-digital formats, the system has a few necessary guardrails. If you insert that same physical disc into a different console, the digital license transfers over, revoking access on the original machine. Players can easily manage these permissions by checking the Revoked Digital Games section within their console settings, ensuring transparency around how shared physical media behaves in a digital ecosystem.

Publisher participation has been another talking point during the rollout, with early concerns around third-party support quickly smoothing out. While heavy hitters like Ubisoft and SEGA have officially joined the program, major publishers like Bandai Namco and Square Enix remain absent for now. Community trackers estimate that over 1,500 titles are already compatible, and players can expect that library to expand as more publishers sign on to bridge the gap between physical and digital ownership.
