Xbox Rolls Out Disc-to-Digital Feature to the Public

Xbox has officially rolled out its disc-to-digital feature to all users, allowing players to claim digital licenses for physical games while keeping their discs for resale or lending.
Polygon reports that Xbox has officially launched its highly anticipated disc-to-digital program for all Xbox Series X and Xbox One owners, following a thorough testing phase with Insider feedback. With the latest system update installed, players can insert physical game discs and automatically claim a corresponding digital license. The process allows gamers to streamline their libraries while keeping their physical media intact for future resale or lending.
To make the transition even smoother, players can disable the automatic game launch feature in their settings, which speeds up the process when digitizing a collection in bulk. Xbox has also built in safeguards to track these licenses. If a disc is inserted into another console, the original digital license can expire or be revoked, and players can monitor their active library through a dedicated Revoked Digital Games list in the system settings.
This initiative bridges a major gap for cross-generational players, allowing Xbox One owners to claim licenses for last-generation games and play them on a Series S using the same account. In an era where digital-only storefronts dominate the conversation, this feature offers a practical compromise. It gives physical collectors the best of both worlds without forcing them to abandon their existing disc libraries.
