Microsoft announced the first wave of Xbox Game Pass titles for September, headlined by Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, alongside several notable departures.
Microsoft is rolling out the first wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for September, and the roster offers a solid mix of blockbusters and indie curiosities. Leading the charge is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, arriving on September 8 for subscribers on major tiers. While the multiplayer had its ups and downs when it originally launched, dropping a full franchise entry straight into the subscription library is always a massive win for player counts and community matchmaking.
The early month schedule also brings some interesting day-one drops and genre favorites. Shelldiver kicks things off as an oddball incremental game about a turtle selling jellyfish, while Speedrunners 2: King of Speed hits on September 3 for some frantic competitive platforming. Fans of strategy and runs can also look forward to the roguelike deck builder Dice a Million, alongside a medieval spin on the genre called The Royal Writ later in the month.
Perhaps the most intriguing addition for long-term MMO fans is RuneScape: Dragonwilds, landing on September 15. The standalone survival title has already moved over a million copies in early access, bringing open-world crafting and co-op to Jagex's storied franchise. Of course, the monthly subscription shuffle means some titles are heading out the door as well, including indie darlings like Spiritfarer and Dead Cells, so you have a couple of weeks to knock out those final achievements.
As reported by IGN, the full September wave spans cloud, console, PC, and handheld devices, continuing Microsoft's push for cross-platform accessibility. Subscribers should check their apps to claim the incoming games and squeeze in final sessions for anything leaving the service on September 15.
