Microsoft has confirmed that the indie game Bad Magpie will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass in 2027, joining a growing lineup that includes the upcoming Fable reboot.
Xbox Game Pass continues to map out its long-term release schedule, with subscribers now looking ahead to 2027. During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft confirmed that the upcoming indie game Bad Magpie will launch day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass when it arrives in 2027. Developed with a charming and whimsical aesthetic, the game casts players as a mischievous, one-winged magpie tasked with solving puzzles and causing gentle chaos in a style reminiscent of favorites like Untitled Goose Game and A Short Hike.
Securing day one indie titles has become a cornerstone of the Game Pass value proposition. It gives smaller projects a built-in audience across console and PC from the moment they launch, while providing subscribers with a steady rotation of fresh experiences outside of traditional blockbuster releases. For a title like Bad Magpie, launching directly into a subscription service removes the usual barrier to entry and helps foster organic word of mouth across social media and streaming platforms.
While 2026 still holds major heavy hitters for the service, including upcoming first-party titles like Halo Campaign Evolved and Gears of War E Day, the 2027 calendar is steadily filling out with high-profile additions. Alongside indie projects, the heavily anticipated Fable reboot from Playground Games is locked in for February 2027 after shifting from its original window. As Microsoft balances massive AAA franchises with creative indie releases, the long-term outlook for Game Pass remains a primary driver for the ecosystem.
