Xbox Game Pass Faces Potential September Departures for Two Major Hits

Xbox Game Pass may soon lose Hades and Hollow Knight: Silksong as both critically acclaimed titles approach their one-year anniversary on the service, though historical patterns suggest at least one may stick around.
As subscription libraries continue to shape how modern players consume entertainment, the revolving door of platform catalogs remains a constant reality. According to a report by Game Rant, Xbox Game Pass is approaching the one-year anniversary of two of its most celebrated additions, pointing to potential catalog removals in September. Both Hades and Hollow Knight: Silksong arrived on the service in September 2025, with Silksong making a massive splash as a day-one launch before Hades followed two weeks later. While Microsoft has not yet confirmed any official departures, standard licensing patterns suggest these heavy hitters are nearing the end of their initial windows.
For players managing backlog anxiety across multiple platforms, subscription rotation is nothing new, but losing titles of this caliber always stings. However, community concern might be slightly overblown in one specific case. Industry observers note that developer Team Cherry has a history that suggests Hollow Knight: Silksong is far less likely to vanish from the service next month. Licensing deals vary wildly between indie darlings and major publishers, and developers often weigh the discoverability benefits of subscription services against direct sales as titles mature.
Ultimately, this highlights the shifting economics of digital ownership and subscription access in the modern gaming landscape. Players have grown accustomed to treating services like Game Pass as endless libraries, yet titles inevitably cycle in and out. For anyone who has yet to finish either of these modern masterpieces, the coming weeks present the ideal time to wrap up ongoing playthroughs before official announcements drop. As always, keeping an eye on the service dashboard is the best way to plan your gaming time effectively.
