Xbox Game Pass Digs Up Some Ancient Treasure: Retro Classics Gets a Refresh

Xbox Game Pass just dropped seven new retro titles onto their Retro Classics app, giving gamers a chance to experience (or re-experience) some old-school goodness. Some are even voiced by Mark Hamill & Tim Curry!

Alright, so Xbox Game Pass is doing that thing where they keep throwing more games at us – not that I'm complaining, mind you. This time, it's a blast from the past (or seven blasts, to be precise) with some new additions to their Retro Classics app. Game Rant were the ones to spot these new titles, so cheers to them for digging up the dirt!

It seems Microsoft is taking a leaf out of Nintendo and PlayStation's book, offering players a chance to experience games that might otherwise be gathering dust in the attic – or, more likely, lost to the mists of digital abandonware. Retro Classics, which launched back in May 2025, is already proving a decent draw, apparently. It's not just a straight-up port-a-thon either; these classics come with some modern bells and whistles, like community challenges and save states (hallelujah!).

Now, what relics have they unearthed this time around? Well, hold onto your hats: we're talking Stake Boardin' (from way back in '87!), Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail (a DOS gem from 1990), and, perhaps most intriguing, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers – which apparently boasts the voice talents of Tim Curry *and* Mark Hamill. Bloody hell, that's a niche piece of gaming history if ever I saw one.

It's worth pointing out that Xbox didn't exactly shout from the rooftops about these new additions. Game Rant noticed them lurking in the app's "New Games" section. Sneaky, eh? But, hey, that's how legends are born, right?

Microsoft are supposedly aiming to add over 100 retro games to the service by the end of the year, so there's plenty more nostalgia to look forward to. I reckon some of these titles are so obscure that this might be the first time many gamers are even *hearing* of them. More importantly it’s a great way for Xbox to champion game preservation.

For those not entirely sold on the retro vibe, fear not! Microsoft recently announced a whole raft of new games coming to Game Pass in July, including Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Keep in mind that only Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers get access to all the new goodies. But those Retro Classics? They're available to everyone, regardless of their subscription tier. So, dust off your joysticks, folks – it's time to get retro!
