Wyrmspan Designer Connie Vogelmann Reveals Cozy Sea Turtle Board Game Tideward

Wyrmspan designer Connie Vogelmann is launching Tideward, a cozy family board game about guiding baby turtles to safety, debuting at Essen before its retail release.

Connie Vogelmann, the creative mind behind hits like Wyrmspan and Apiary, is returning with a brand new tabletop experience. As reported by Polygon, her upcoming game is titled Tideward, trading fantastical dragons and bees for the perilous and adorable journey of newborn sea turtles. Set to debut at the Essen Game Fair, the game challenges two to four players to guide hatchlings safely from the sandy beach to underwater algal mats while dodging hungry predators.

Built around a streamlined three-action turn system, Tideward focuses on hatching eggs, gathering food, and executing automated movement puzzles. Vogelmann noted that the concept sparked during a walk through Gen Con, prompting her to strip away heavier mechanics in favor of a tighter, more accessible design. Unlike her previous heavier releases aimed at players fourteen and older, Tideward opens the door for families and younger participants starting at age ten.

For players looking to unwind between heavy strategy sessions or digital gaming marathons, this title offers a welcoming entry point into the hobby. The game will be available for public demos at the Avalon Hill and Hasbro booth during Essen, before hitting retail shelves with a standard price tag in January 2027. It is a refreshing reminder that tabletop design continues to thrive by finding innovative ways to bring different generations of players to the same table.
