WWE 2K26 Swaps Traditional DLC for Battle Passes and Puts CM Punk on the Cover

WWE 2K26 launches on March 13 with CM Punk on the cover and introduces non-expiring Ringside Passes to replace traditional DLC packs.

As Royal Rumble weekend kicks off, 2K has pulled back the curtain on WWE 2K26, and the upcoming wrestling sim is bringing some major changes to how players consume post-launch content. Scheduled for release on March 13, the game features current World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk on the cover for the first time since WWE 13, marking a full circle moment for the star. Beyond the roster updates and standard multi-edition rollout, the biggest shift is a complete overhaul of the game's monetization model. Traditional season passes and DLC packs are out, replaced entirely by a new system called the Ringside Pass.

According to details shared with Polygon, the Ringside Pass introduces a hybrid progression system featuring both free and premium tiers. The launch pass will pack 60 free items alongside an additional 40 items in the premium track, covering everything from new superstars and custom gear to virtual currency and MyFaction content. Fortunately, 2K is adopting a player-friendly approach to this structure by making the passes non-expiring. If you pick up the game late in the year, you can still go back and grind through rewards from previous passes at your own pace.

While battle passes often draw immediate skepticism in modern gaming, the absence of expiration timers removes the usual FOMO that frustrates busy players. For a cross-platform community that expects flexibility in how they spend both time and money, a permanent progression track is a welcome departure from standard live service pressure. As we get closer to the March launch, it will be interesting to see how the community reacts to trading traditional character packs for a dedicated progression grind.
