WWE 2K26 Pushes Microtransaction Limits With Massive Tier-Skip Costs

WWE 2K26 replaces traditional DLC with a seasonal Ringside Pass system, and optional tier-skips push the total potential cost of unlocking all post-launch content near the $500 mark.

As sports and fighting game communities dive into the roster reveals and new modes for WWE 2K26, a fresh look at the game's monetization is sparking heavy community pushback. Developer Visual Concepts has introduced the Ringside Pass, a battle pass system that replaces traditional post-launch DLC packs. While players used to grab a season pass for instant access to upcoming wrestlers, the new model splits content across six separate seasons. Each pass costs $10 on top of the base game, fundamentally shifting how players acquire new fighters and in-game rewards.

The real friction point, however, lies in the option to skip tiers. According to reports from Insider Gaming, paying to skip every tier in a single Ringside Pass costs $80. When multiplied across all six planned seasons, players who want to instantly unlock everything without grinding are looking at roughly $480 in tier skips alone. Combined with the base game and pass entry fees, the total cost spirals past the $500 mark, ironically rivaling the price of actual live event tickets for WrestleMania 42.

While tier skips are completely elective and everything can technically be unlocked through standard gameplay, the design points to a worrying industry trend where progression systems are deliberately paced to encourage spending. For a community that views gaming as a primary social space and hobby, paying full price for a title only to face aggressive monetization for basic roster additions feels exhausting. Publishers continue to test the limits of what players will accept, but community fatigue is reaching a boiling point as digital economies become increasingly aggressive.
