World of Warcraft patch 12.1.5 features the Sporebearer Fungal Strider, a customizable mount costing up to 7 million gold or hundreds of dollars in real-world currency.
Blizzard is expanding World of Warcraft with the upcoming patch 12.1.5, bringing fresh story campaigns, a new single boss raid, and a massive gold sink that is already turning heads. Datamined details reveal the Sporebearer Fungal Strider, a customizable mount that carries a base price tag of 5 million gold. Players can further kit out the mount with an Auction House NPC and a Transmogrifier, bringing the absolute total cost to a staggering 7 million gold. On top of the heavy in-game price, the mount is strictly time limited to the Midnight expansion.
Following in the footsteps of previous high end convenience items like the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur, this new mount pushes digital pricing boundaries. While players can theoretically grind out the gold in game, the sheer scale of the 5 to 7 million cost means many will turn to WoW Game Time Tokens. Converting real world cash into gold via tokens puts the base mount at roughly $420, while the fully upgraded version climbs to around $600 based on current market rates.
Even with the daunting price point, community reaction points toward the mount being a major status symbol for dedicated hoarders. The ability to swap and customize active vendors like mail couriers and repair bots on the fly offers genuine utility for endgame grinders. Alongside a separate cash shop mount in the pipeline, Blizzard is testing just how much players are willing to spend for ultimate mobile convenience in Azeroth.
