World of Warcraft Is Officially Getting a Prop Hunt Mode

World of Warcraft is adding an official Prop Hunt mode called Decor Duel in patch 12.05, offering players a casual social experience alongside the Midnight expansion.

Blizzard is shaking up the standard MMO formula by bringing an official Prop Hunt style mode to World of Warcraft. Revealed during the State of Azeroth presentation, lead Ion Hazzikostas outlined a new feature called Decor Duel, arriving in patch 12.05 alongside the Midnight expansion rollout. During the roadmap breakdown, the team openly acknowledged that the mode is essentially the classic hide and seek favorite that has lived in shooters and party games for years, adapted for the massive universe of Azeroth.

For a game best known for its raids, dungeons, and intense seasonal progression, adding casual social modes marks a noticeable shift in how developers are thinking about player retention. Modern gaming audiences expect their primary virtual worlds to double as hangout spaces. By introducing lightweight, highly replayable community modes, Blizzard is creating room for players to take a break from the gear grind and just hang out with friends, which is a massive win for guild bonding and streaming content alike.

While hardcore raiders might raise an eyebrow at the sudden pivot toward party games, the streaming and creator community is bound to have a field day with Decor Duel. Watching top progression guilds or your favorite Twitch streamers try to blend in as a chair or a barrel in classic zones will provide endless entertainment between raid tiers. As reported by IGN South Africa, we can expect the mode to land later this year, giving the community plenty of time to scope out the best hiding spots across Azeroth.
