World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Forces Blizzard to Boost Server Caps Again

Blizzard has expanded server capacity for the World of Warcraft: Forever beta once again following unexpectedly high player demand, even with a $59.99 entry fee required to join the test.
Blizzard is scrambling to keep up with player demand as the World of Warcraft: Forever beta continues to surge in popularity. Executive producer Holly Longdale shared on social media that the development team had to raise the server population cap once again over the weekend to accommodate the massive influx of players. This follows earlier comments from classic developer Josh Greenfield, who noted that the beta launch generated the highest engagement numbers he has seen in his nearly two decades at the studio.
What makes these high player counts particularly striking is the barrier to entry currently in place. As reported by Eurogamer, players must purchase the Skyborne Epic pack for $59.99 just to gain access to the beta period. When the game officially launches on November 4, it will transition to a traditional monthly subscription model rather than requiring a large upfront payment, suggesting that the current player base represents only a fraction of the eventual audience.
The massive turnout mirrors the historic subscriber jump seen back in 2019 during the rollout of World of Warcraft: Classic. Longtime fans and newer players alike are clearly craving that specific brand of classic MMO progression. If these early beta numbers are any indication, Blizzard has another major community phenomenon on its hands as it prepares for the full release later this year.
