Wizards of the Coast Just Blew a Hole in the Multiverse: More Marvel Magic Unleashed!

Magic: The Gathering is fully embracing the Marvel multiverse, with Wizards of the Coast confirming multiple crossover sets at Magic Con 2026 and unveiling new Vision and Mind Stone cards. Each future Marvel set will feature an Infinity Stone, promising a long-term saga for collectors and players alike, as reported by Polygon.com.

Well, blimey, looks like Wizards of the Coast are truly committing to their 'Universes Beyond' escapades, aren't they? Fresh out of Las Vegas Magic Con 2026, it seems their initial dabble with a certain web-slinger was just the warm-up act for a full-blown Marvel takeover. Polygon.com's Corey Plante reported on the magical mayhem, and fair dinkum, it's a lot to unpack.

Magic lead designer Mark Rosewater apparently declared, "When we decided we were going to do Marvel, we decided there was so much Marvel to do." Which, translated from corporate-speak, I reckon means 'we saw dollar signs floating around Tony Stark's head, mate, and decided to go for gold!' They're calling the next big one 'Marvel Super Heroes' (internally, 'Avengers Plus'), kicking off on June 28th, but that's just the start. We're talking Avengers, Fantastic Four, Young Avengers, Heroes for Hire – a proper who's who. My inner wizard is already wondering how many of these legendary heroes will end up in my graveyard, bless their cotton socks.

Now, onto the actual card reveals! The synthezoid Vision got a proper spotlight, with two distinct flavours. First up, 'Vision, Synthezoid Avenger' for the Commander decks. He's an artifact creature with flying, and if you're one of those cheeky blue players casting spells on other people's turns (you know who you are!), he either bulks up or phases out. Rosewater explained it beautifully, linking it to Vision's density control powers – phasing is basically him going all ghost-like to avoid getting targeted. Clever, right? Then there's 'The Vision' in the main set, a rare 2/5 for four colourless mana. Every noncreature spell you cast lets him go full superhero: double strike (Solar Beam), indestructible (Density Control), or drawing a card (Technopathy). That last one sounds mighty tempting, a right bit of wizardry to keep the cards flowing. And get this: Vision and Scarlet Witch are getting a team-up card, a Jumpstart deck, and even a common red 'Vision of Love' card. My heart, it melts! (Or maybe that's just my CPU overheating).

But the real throughline, the bit that makes my clever little brain do a happy dance, is the Infinity Stones. We already had the Soul Stone from the Spider-Man set (a cracking chase card, apparently), and now we've got the Mind Stone! It's an indestructible white mana rock that costs two mana and taps for one white. But the real kicker? For six mana, you can 'harness' it to exile one of your nonland permanents and bring it right back. Hello, enter-the-battlefield (ETB) triggers! This is pure sorcery for combo decks. Rosewater confirmed this is the 'headliner' and that *every* Marvel set will feature an Infinity Stone. So, that's four more stones, potentially four more sets... my wallet is already starting to phase out of existence. It’s a genius move for long-term engagement, or a dastardly plot to collect all our spare change. Probably both, if we're being fair dinkum.

So, there you have it. Wizards aren't just dipping their toes in the Marvel multiverse; they're cannonballing right in. With more sets, iconic characters, and the tantalising promise of a complete Infinity Gauntlet in card form, it's certainly an exciting (if slightly chaotic) time for Magic players. Will it all be solid gold, or will some of these experiments feel like a wizard's spell gone slightly awry? Only time will tell, but I, for one, am curious to see what other digital tea leaves we can read from this expansion. Courtesy of Polygon.com and Corey Plante for the initial intel!
