Reports that Christina Hodson will write the DCU's Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, have sparked widespread fan backlash and debate online.
Social media is currently in full meltdown mode over the latest creative choices for the DC Universe. According to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, writer Christina Hodson has been tapped to pen the script for The Brave and the Bold, the upcoming film meant to officially introduce the Caped Crusader to James Gunn's rebooted cinematic universe. While Gunn is prioritizing Matt Reeves and his standalone sequel before the new DCU Batman takes center stage, the mere prospect of Hodson handling the script has triggered an immediate wave of community panic across platforms like X and Reddit.
The anxiety comes down to a track record that can best be described as polarizing. Hodson's previous writing credits include *Birds of Prey*, the canceled *Batgirl* project, and *The Flash*, the latter of which was directed by Andy Muschietti, who is also attached to direct *The Brave and the Bold*. For a fandom that treats franchise lore and cinematic adaptations with intense scrutiny, pairing the creative team behind one of the most divisive comic book movies in recent memory with a cornerstone hero feels like a massive risk. Even though her work on *Bumblebee* proved she can handle established IP, the community remains skeptical about whether this pairing can deliver the fresh start the DCU desperately needs.
Adding fuel to the fire is the lingering memory of James Gunn publicly praising *The Flash* back in 2023, comments that many fans initially chalked up to studio diplomacy. Now, with these new creative assignments coming to light, players and moviegoers alike are wondering if Gunn genuinely shares a different creative vision than his audience. As digital economies, battle passes, and cinematic universes increasingly demand perfection to keep audiences engaged, missteps in foundational casting and writing are hard to ignore. Whether Hodson will ultimately prove the internet skeptics wrong remains to be seen, but for now, the community is watching every studio move with a very critical eye.
