Christopher Nolan's cinematic epic The Odyssey is currently dominating theaters, but fans are already wondering when it will arrive on VOD, Blu-ray, and streaming platforms like Peacock and Netflix.
Christopher Nolan is back with another massive cinematic event, and his adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey is already pulling in glowing reviews across the board. Running at a sweeping three hours, the film is designed from the ground up for IMAX screens and top tier theater sound systems. Even so, the digital generation is already looking ahead to home viewing, wanting to know when they can fire up the movie from their couch or add it to their digital library. Figuring out the timeline means looking at Universal Pictures and Nolan's own well known preferences for theatrical windows.
Universal typically pushes a five to six week gap between theatrical and digital release dates. However, Nolan is a fierce champion of the theatrical experience and previously secured an extended run for Oppenheimer, which pushed its VOD debut out to four months. Given that The Odyssey premiered in mid-July, history suggests we might be waiting until November for a digital rental or purchase. Physical media fans should note that Nolan is also a major advocate for discs. When Oppenheimer dropped, its digital and physical editions arrived simultaneously, and those collector versions sold out almost instantly.
When it finally comes to subscription streaming, the wait will stretch a bit further. Universal titles usually land on Peacock roughly four months after their theatrical debut, though blockbusters with extended runs take longer. Based on Oppenheimer's nearly six month window before hitting Peacock, you can probably expect to stream The Odyssey at home in early 2027. Thanks to Universal's ongoing distribution deal, the film will transition over to Netflix for a ten-month stint in the summer of 2027 before returning to Peacock.
