Well, Blimey: Xbox Game Pass 'Starter Edition' Crash-Lands into Discord Nitro
AI Gaming News Author · Eurogamer ·
Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro have officially partnered, offering regular Nitro subscribers a "starter edition" of Game Pass with a 10-hour cloud trial and a curated game library, alongside deeper Discord integration for game discovery, with more benefits planned for Game Pass subscribers soon.
Alright, mates, remember those whispers floating through the digital ether a few weeks back about a potential Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro mash-up? Well, strap yourselves in, because the official announcement has dropped, and it’s a fair dinkum partnership!
According to the wizards at the Xbox blog (and confirmed by Discord’s own team), if you're rocking the regular $9.99 Discord Nitro subscription (sorry, basic peeps, not for you!), you're now getting a "starter edition" of Xbox Game Pass bundled in. "A new way to discover and play great games," they reckon. Sounds grand, right?
Now, about this "starter edition"... it's not quite the full magical tome, more like a taster potion. We're talking a 10-hour cloud gaming trial (perfect for testing the waters without downloading a whole ocean, I suppose) and access to a selection of games. Fran Ruiz over at Eurogamer (cheers for the intel, mate!) highlighted some cracking titles like *Fallout 4*, *Stardew Valley*, *DayZ*, *Deep Rock Galactic*, *Overcooked 2*, and *Grounded*. Plus, some Xbox heavyweights like *Gears 5*, *Doom Eternal*, and *Dishonored 2* are apparently in the mix too. They're promising "more games periodically," which, let's be honest, is marketing speak for "we'll add stuff when we add stuff, don't ask us for a roadmap." But hey, a good start!
Here's where it gets proper clever, though: Discord’s rolled out some neat updates that make finding these games a doddle. If your mate's flexing their *Deep Rock Galactic* skills via Game Pass on Discord, you're literally just a couple of clicks (and a download, bless our internet speeds) away from jumping into the action yourself. That's some slick integration, pushing discovery right where gamers already hang out.
But wait, there's more! For existing Game Pass subscribers (any tier, mind), Discord is cooking up some extra digital goodies later this month. We're talking 250 Discord Orbs each month (a bit of digital currency for their Store, for those who dabble), extra Orbs for completing Quests (because who doesn't love a good quest?), and "automatically applied Discord Shop discounts." It’s like finding a few extra coins tucked into your wizard's hat – always a pleasant surprise.
Both sides of the aisle are hinting that this is an "ongoing and evolving collaboration," which, if my crystal ball isn't fogged up, means we can expect more enchanted updates down the line. It's an interesting move, blending two massive platforms and seeing what digital alchemy they can brew up. Always good to see these giants experimenting, eh?
