Warren Spector's upcoming stealth game Thick as Thieves has dropped its original PvPvE multiplayer design in favor of dedicated solo and two-player co-op gameplay.
OtherSide Entertainment is changing direction for Thick as Thieves, the upcoming stealth action game led by industry veteran Warren Spector. Initially revealed in 2024 as a competitive multiplayer experience, the project has officially pivoted away from its original PvPvE design. In a recent update shared on Steam, the studio explained that internal playtests revealed the team was simply having more fun focusing on single-player and two-player cooperative mechanics within the 1910s setting of Kilcairn.
Dropping the player-versus-player elements allows the developers to double down on dynamic stealth systems and immersive storytelling rather than competing in an oversaturated extraction shooter market. That genre currently features heavyweights like Escape from Tarkov alongside upcoming titles such as Arc Raiders and Marathon. By shifting gears, OtherSide aims to carve out a distinct space for players who prefer traditional immersive sims and cooperative tactical gameplay over chaotic online lobbies.
The updated vision for Thick as Thieves will be on display during the upcoming Triple-i Initiative showcase. While the game does not yet have a locked-in release date, it remains scheduled to launch on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. For a community fatigued by endless live-service extraction loops, trading competitive chaos for a focused co-op experience might just be the right call.
