Warhammer Age of Sigmar Expands With New Skaven Stealth Game, Deathmaster

Old Skull Games and Dotemu have announced Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster, a 2D stealth action platformer coming in 2027 that puts players in control of a Skaven assassin.

The Warhammer video game universe has spent years leaning heavily into the futuristic trenches of Warhammer 40,000, leaving fantasy fans with fewer options to explore. That balance is finally shifting. Announced during the annual Warhammer Skulls showcase, developer Old Skull Games and publisher Dotemu revealed Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster, an upcoming 2D stealth action platformer scheduled for release in 2027. Instead of commanding massive armies in real time strategy, players will step into the claws of a single operative in the first ever dedicated Skaven game.

Players will control Vihneek, an assassin belonging to the treacherous Eshin clan who is fighting for the elite rank of Deathmaster. The gameplay heavily emphasizes the faction's signature tactics, including environmental traps, shadows, and brutal assassinations. According to an interview with Polygon, design manager Marco Mele explained that the game is designed to make players feel like a bird of prey. Levels offer the flexibility to ghost through entire missions completely undetected or pick off targets one by one, giving players total control over their approach to combat and stealth.

For a franchise often dominated by massive strategy titles or heavy action RPGs, a narrative focused stealth platformer is a refreshing pivot. Old Skull Games brings strong genre pedigree to the project following their work on Valiant Hearts: Coming Home, and pairing them with publisher Dotemu points toward a polished, arcade inspired experience.
