Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Deploys the Skitarii Class Alongside a Major Free Update

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide's latest update introduces the Skitarii DLC class, challenging new shielded Vanguard enemies, and a major mechanical overhaul to the co-op expeditions mode.

Fatshark is keeping the grim darkness of the far future fresh with a substantial new drop for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the latest patch brings a mix of free gameplay overhauls and a brand new paid class for players looking to expand their loadout options. The headline addition is the Skitarii class, available now as DLC for $11.99. These augmented operatives of the Machine God feature a non-linear talent tree that lets players build everything from long range assassins to melee specialists wielding Transonic blades.

Alongside the paid DLC, developer Fatshark has rolled out Patch 1.12.0, which injects new challenges into co-op sessions. The update introduces Scab and Dreg Vanguards, melee bruisers equipped with breakable shields designed to break up standard horde clearing strategies. The Scab variant brings durable, rare shields, while the Dreg version relies on more numerous, fragile scrap shields. Both types remain formidable threats even after their defensive gear shatters.

The game's expeditions mode has also received a thorough mechanical tune-up. Players can now tackle a new dawn scavenge zone featuring electric hazards and the Deadsider Sanctuary. Quality of life improvements include Auspex tracking for hog tied teammates and a shift to a shared tech remnant pool for the squad. This shared resource adds a new layer of tension to team survival, as dying on a run directly threatens the collective pool until you rescue your fallen squadmates.
