Warframe Turns In-Game Lore Into Reality With Fables Frontiers

Warframe is adding a permanent tabletop-style minigame called Fables Frontiers, allowing players to finally join character Amir's campaign through the in-game messaging system.

Digital Extremes is officially turning a piece of community lore into a playable reality inside Warframe. During TennoCon 2026, the developer revealed that Fables Frontiers, the tabletop roleplaying game that the 1999 expansion character Amir has been eager to play, is coming to the game as a permanent playable minigame. According to creative director Rebecca Ford in an interview with Polygon, the team wanted to ensure the feature stays permanently in the Hex rather than disappearing after a limited run. Players will access the adventure through the K.I.M. messaging system, turning a clever nod to verisimilitude into a fully realized interactive experience.

The tabletop tribute arrives alongside a dedicated space in the Höllvania Mall, decorated as Amir's campaign room with complete maps and game pieces. This addition stems from a genuine, lifelong love of tabletop RPGs among the development team, who spent years playing games like Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder before bringing that culture into their studio work. Community director Megan Everett noted that the feature serves as a direct love letter to players who kept asking when Amir would finally get his game night.

The rollout also ties into the upcoming Amir’s Shockwave event this August, which will see the free Nightwave battle pass hijacked by Amir for themed daily and weekly quests with exclusive rewards, including a new On-Lyne track. The tabletop theme continues to ripple outward as well, with voice actor and renowned DM Matthew Mercer joining the cast for the upcoming Tau expansion as the detective Warframe Brysko.
