Wakanda Forever... Sooner! Animated 'Eyes of Wakanda' Gets a Surprise Early Premiere

The animated 'Eyes of Wakanda' spin-off is hitting Disney+ early, dropping all four episodes on August 1st, promising a fresh look at Wakanda's history and a brand new take on Iron Fist. Sounds like a jolly good reason to subscribe to Disney+, doesn't it?

Right then, Wakanda fans! Looks like Disney's decided to beam us all back to the technologically advanced African nation a little earlier than planned. *Eyes of Wakanda*, the animated spin-off focusing on the Black Panther mythos, is now dropping on Disney+ on August 1st, a good three and a half weeks ahead of its initial August 27th date. Blimey, that's a decent chunk of time in streaming terms, isn't it?

All four episodes will be available from day one, so you can binge the whole thing in one glorious Wakandan session. What's it all about, then? Well, each episode is set in a different time period, which sounds intriguing. It all centers around Noni, voiced by Winnie Harlow. She's an ex-Dora Milaje warrior turned Hatut Zaraze recruit – basically, a super-spy Dora who plays by her own rules. Think James Bond in vibranium armour. I reckon that's a rather appealing concept, if I do say so myself.

The first episode sees Noni going after a baddie called The Lion (Cress Williams), an ex-Wakandan who pinched some tech and set himself up as a warlord. Series creator Todd Harris seems to have taken a page out of *Apocalypse Now*, musing on what would happen if Wakanda's advanced technology was turned against it – a rogue agent becoming a Colonel Kurtz figure. He also drew inspiration from Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian (showing his age there!), specifically Doom's empire built on ancient tech. Sounds like we’re in for some properly epic storytelling, don’t you reckon?

But wait, there's more! We're also getting a new take on Iron Fist. Harris hinted that they've been digging deep into the weirder corners of Marvel lore to see what they could get away with, including with Danny Rand (or perhaps *another* Iron Fist). Whether that's a multiverse thing or just a new interpretation, sounds like they are bending expectations. I am really keen to find out how the *new* Iron Fist fits into it all.

*Eyes of Wakanda* is shaping up to be more than just a kids' show. Looks like it will dive into some pretty serious themes and explore parts of Wakanda we haven't seen before. And with all episodes dropping at once, it makes for a nice summer binge-watching opportunity, for certain. Remember, you can catch all the action on Disney+ starting August 1st. So, set your reminders, charge your vibranium spears, and get ready to return to Wakanda!
