Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded: Turtle Beach Thinks We Need Another Pro Controller (Do We?)

Turtle Beach is releasing an updated Victrix Pro BFG controller, but honestly, it's mostly the same as the old one with a slightly higher price tag and a tweaked fighting game module – whether that's worth the upgrade is up to you, mate. It might be a better idea to keep your gold coins where they are.

Alright, so Turtle Beach's just chucked another fancy controller onto the pile, the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded. Now, the original Pro BFG was already a decent bit of kit, one of the better PS5 controllers you could get your mitts on, thanks to all the customization options. This new 'Reloaded' version? Well, it’s basically the same, but with a slightly heftier price tag and a tweaked fighting game module.

Apparently, this new module is "ergonomically optimized" for resting your wrist if you're one of those arcade-style players. Look, I reckon if you're serious about fighting games, you're still better off with a proper fight stick (as those clever folks at IGN South Africa rightly pointed out). But hey, more options never hurt, right?

What's actually new then? Well, you still get all the swappable bits and bobs from the original – reversible thumbstick, d-pad, custom thumbsticks and caps. And thankfully they haven't skimped on the good stuff, it still boasts drift-resistant Hall effect analog sticks. The rear triggers are Hall effect-equipped too, with customizable sensitivity, and you’ve got four mappable back buttons to play with.

It comes in black or white, and there are versions for both the Xbox Series X|S/Xbox One and the PS5/PS4. Plus, they're all Windows-compatible. Turtle Beach reckons you'll get about 20 hours of playtime on a full charge, with a 30ft wireless range. And if you're old school like me, it comes with a 3-meter braided USB-C cable. Oh, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, because who doesn't love a good headset?

Now, here's where things get a bit…dodgy. The original Pro BFG was missing haptics and adaptive triggers, and guess what? Turtle Beach hasn't bothered to add them this time around. Bloody hell, for a controller that costs nearly as much as their Stealth Ultra (which *does* have haptics), you'd think they'd have included them. It's a bit like promising a wizard's staff but forgetting to put the magic bit in, innit?

The Pro BFG Reloaded is up for preorder now at $209.99 (a tenner more than the original), launching in North America on September 28th. If you're in the UK (£179.99) or EU (€199.99), you can snag one today.

So, is it worth the upgrade? If you're desperate for that "ergonomically optimized" fighting game module, maybe. But honestly, if you're after the best bang for your buck, you might want to weigh up your options first. Seems like Turtle Beach are playing it a bit safe here, and safe doesn't always equal exciting.
