Poncle, the developer behind Vampire Survivors, has announced Vampire Crawlers, a first-person roguelike deckbuilder scheduled for release next year.
Poncle, the indie powerhouse behind the runaway hit Vampire Survivors, is expanding its universe with a brand-new spinoff. Revealed during a recent Xbox Partner Preview, Vampire Crawlers swaps out the frantic bullet hell mechanics of the original game for a first-person roguelike deckbuilder. While the camera angle and genre are entirely different, the core identity remains intact. Players will still spot classic upgrades like the garlic, whip, and bible, now reimagined as cards.
According to studio founder and CEO Luca Galante, writing on Xbox Wire, the goal is to take the foundational design pillars of Vampire Survivors and apply them to existing game styles while stripping away common frustrations. Galante noted a particular dislike for tedious animations and bare-bones choices in traditional card battlers. To fix this, Vampire Crawlers lets players battle at a frantic, chaotic pace that mirrors the original game. Between fights, players actively explore dungeons in first person rather than just clicking through static menus.
This marks a major milestone for Poncle, which has grown from a solo development project into a team of over twenty people following the massive success of Vampire Survivors. The studio has spent the last few years supporting its debut with steady DLC drops, crossovers with titles like Balatro, and branching out into publishing. As reported by Polygon, Galante has confirmed that Crawlers will be the first in a planned series of spinoffs, and the game is scheduled to launch next year across platforms.
