Valve has priced its new Steam Frame VR headset starting at $1,059, with hardware reservations now open through a randomized queue system on Steam.
Valve has finally pulled back the curtain on the pricing and release logistics for the Steam Frame, its upcoming standalone VR headset. According to a recent report by Polygon, the base 256GB model will cost $1,059, while the 1TB tier jumps to $1,299. Both packages include two controllers, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and a bundled copy of Half-Life: Alyx. Notably, the hardware ships without a power supply, though Valve notes that a standard Steam Deck charger will do the job.
Following the rollout strategy used for the Steam Machine, Valve is utilizing a randomized reservation system rather than a standard storefront free-for-all. Players must sign up through Steam by September 17, after which accounts will be sorted into direct reservation queues or waitlists based on regional availability. To prevent scalping, eligibility requires an account in good standing with a purchase history predating April 27, 2026, and purchases are limited to one per household.
Beyond traditional virtual reality experiences, the Steam Frame functions as an open SteamOS device capable of streaming your entire library. Valve is already rolling out a Great on Frame verification system to highlight games that run smoothly in standalone mode. As with the Steam Deck, the hardware remains fully open to tinkering and third-party app installation for players who want to push the device further.
