Valve has announced a next-gen Steam Machine and redesigned Steam Controller, boasting hardware over six times more powerful than the Steam Deck and targeting 4K gaming at 60 FPS, with a 2026 release planned.
Valve is diving back into the living room hardware race. As reported by IGN South Africa, the company has officially announced a brand-new Steam Machine alongside a redesigned Steam Controller. This next-gen hybrid machine aims to bridge the gap between console convenience and open PC gaming, arriving a full decade after Valve's first attempt at the concept struggled to find an audience. This time, the hardware backing the project is significantly more robust.
According to Valve, the new hardware is more than six times more powerful than the Steam Deck. Under the hood, it packs a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU and RDNA3 graphics, paired with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It is built to target 4K gaming at 60 frames per second using FSR technology, positioning it as a genuine living room powerhouse for modern libraries. Valve plans to offer both 512GB and 2TB storage models, shipping them either standalone or bundled with the new controller when it launches in 2026.
While the technical specifications look impressive on paper, a massive question mark remains. Valve has not yet revealed how much the system will cost. Price will ultimately determine whether this living room push succeeds in a market currently dominated by traditional consoles and established PC setups. For players who love the flexibility of SteamOS and want to game on their couch without building a dedicated rig, this release is worth watching closely.
