Valheim finally locks in September launch for version 1.0 and lands on PS5 and Switch 2

Valheim is leaving early access for its 1.0 release on September 9, bringing the Deep North update, full cross-play, and new console ports for PS5 and Switch 2.

After more than five years in early access, the Viking survival phenomenon Valheim is officially graduating to version 1.0. Developer Iron Gate announced during the PC Gaming Show, as reported by Eurogamer, that the full release will arrive on September 9. The launch brings a massive wave of new content alongside the much anticipated Deep North update, which introduces a freezing new biome packed with fresh enemies, weapons, and base building options. For players who built massive empires during the early access years, the transition to 1.0 will require starting a fresh world so everyone can experience the new progression from the beginning.

The 1.0 release will hit PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Linux, and Mac on September 9, while simultaneously bringing the game to new platforms. PlayStation 5 owners will finally get their hands on the survival hit, and Nintendo fans can expect the port to arrive on the upcoming Switch 2 hardware on day one. Even better for communities playing across different ecosystems, full cross-play support will be active across all platforms right from launch.

When Valheim first exploded onto Steam in February 2021, it captured the attention of millions of players and quickly became a cultural touchstone for cooperative survival gaming. Reaching version 1.0 marks a major milestone for a title that defined the genre for a generation of players. As developer Iron Gate closes out its roadmap with the Deep North, the focus shifts toward a unified cross-platform player base ready to explore the frozen biome together.
