Until Dawn 2 Officially Announced for 2027 With a Creator Culture Twist

Sony announced Until Dawn 2 for the PlayStation 5 during its June State of Play, slated for a 2027 release with developer Firesprite taking the helm for a new story about paranormal influencers.

Sony used its latest State of Play showcase to confirm that a sequel to the 2015 narrative horror hit is officially on the way. According to Polygon, Until Dawn 2 is scheduled to launch for the PlayStation 5 in 2027. The premise leans heavily into modern digital culture by following a crew of ghost hunters who run a popular paranormal channel called Dead True. Naturally, their staged scares turn into a desperate fight for survival on a remote island abandoned by a mysterious corporation. Series staple Dr. Hill, played by Peter Stormare, is also returning to torment players.

Development duties are shifting from Supermassive Games, the studio behind the original cult classic, to PlayStation subsidiary Firesprite, known for Horizon Call of the Mountain. The core interactive movie formula remains intact, meaning players will once again dictate who lives and dies through a series of stressful split second decisions. Shifting the cast to a group of content creators opens up plenty of satirical avenues for modern streaming culture, especially given the classic slasher tropes shown in the reveal trailer.

For a community that spends countless hours watching creators navigate choice-driven games on Twitch and YouTube, a creator-focused horror narrative is a fitting evolution. While 2027 is still a ways off, the premise sets up a clever playground for community choices and inevitable chaotic playthroughs. We will have to see if Firesprite can capture the same lightning in a bottle that made the original a genre-defining hit.
