Polygon breaks down Kenjaku's complex motivations and millennial-spanning master plan as Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 kicks off with the Culling Game arc.
The anime landscape is shifting as Jujutsu Kaisen roars back for its third season, following up on the devastating fallout of the Shibuya Incident. Following a special one-hour premiere that dropped on January 8, viewers find Yuji Itadori navigating heavy survivor's guilt while local curse cleanup continues. For those who caught the Execution compilation film, the path leads directly into the Culling Game, a high-stakes, deadly tournament orchestrated by the ancient antagonist Kenjaku. Polygon breaks down the complex lore surrounding this mastermind for fans looking to stay ahead of the curve.
Kenjaku's true identity and mechanics form the backbone of the series' overarching mystery. While he currently operates using the body of Suguru Geto to exploit Cursed Spirit Manipulation, Kenjaku is actually an ancient curse user who has lived for over a thousand years. His innate technique, Brain Transplant, lets him hop bodies and inherit the abilities of his hosts. This explains why Megumi and other characters occasionally reference historical figures like Noritoshi Kamo when discussing Kenjaku's past exploits.
Unlike traditional villains driven by simple quests for world domination, Kenjaku operates on a millennial scale of scientific and philosophical curiosity. His ultimate goal centers on forcing human evolution to its next stage through massive, controlled chaos and experimentation with cursed energy. As the Culling Game arc ramps up this season, understanding these deep narrative layers gives viewers essential context for the massive streaming event currently dominating fandom timelines and creator discussions across platforms.
