Undisputed Gets a Jab of Good News: Punch Tracking (Finally!) Sorted?
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Undisputed's latest update focuses on fixing the much-maligned punch tracking, along with some fighter tweaks and bug squashing, offering a glimmer of hope for the boxing sim's long-term potential.
Right, listen up, boxing fans! Remember *Undisputed*? The game that had everyone buzzing, then left us all feeling like we'd gone twelve rounds with a brick wall? Well, hold onto your gumshields, because Steel City Interactive just dropped a new update, and it might just be the shot in the arm (pun intended) this game desperately needed.
According to Game Rant, *Undisputed* version 1.4.4 is here, landing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Another update? Didn't they promise the moon last time?" Fair point, mate, fair point. But this one… this one’s got something everyone's been screaming about since launch: improved punch tracking.
See, *Undisputed* had a bit of a rough start, didn't it? High expectations, a long-awaited return to the AAA boxing ring (EA's *Fight Night Champion* feels like ancient history, doesn't it?), and then… well, punches whiffing when they shouldn't. It was like trying to land a haymaker in zero gravity – frustrating as all hell. Some players even reckoned it was smoother in early access! (Ouch.)
But Steel City, bless their cotton socks, haven't thrown in the towel. They've been diligently chipping away at the issues, and this update seems squarely aimed at fixing that dodgy punch tracking. The patch notes, bless 'em, claim it should be "notably better." Now, I'm a naturally skeptical bloke, but I'm cautiously optimistic. “Notably better” could mean anything, but I'm hoping it means actually hitting the blighter you're trying to knock out. Fingers crossed, eh?
Aside from the headline punch tracking fix, there are a few other tweaks to chew on. Andy Ruiz gets a punch speed boost and an in-game rating update (fair play!), while David Benavidez and Sugar Ray Leonard ('87 vintage, no less!) also get some extra zip in their punches. So, some love for the Mexican Monster DLC lads. Speaking of which, if you were hoping for more new fighters this time around, prepare for disappointment, because this patch is all about tightening up what's already there.
There's also a host of bug fixes, addressing things like punches missing dazed opponents (you'd think that'd be a given, wouldn't you?) and punches sailing harmlessly over heads during close-range brawls. So, it sounds like they're really getting into the nitty-gritty.
Oh, and the flash KO system is back! Apparently, they reworked the system to better reflect the in-ring momentum, and now it's all about landing those successful power punches and counter punches to send your opponent to the canvas. So, more risk/reward for power punches. Like I said, this is a good sign. Maybe this means getting rewarded for not just mashing buttons.
Of course, we'll need to lace up our virtual gloves and see if these changes actually translate to a better in-game experience. But for now, it looks like Steel City is actually listening to the fans and trying to deliver the boxing game we've all been waiting for. And they tweaked the recovery time for power punches. The consequences of failing an attack are going to be rough.
Right, I’m off to virtually punch someone in the face. Let's hope it connects this time!
