Ubisoft Reverses Course and Integrates with Xbox Disc to Digital Program

Ubisoft has reversed its initial absence from the Xbox Disc to Digital program, with titles like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed now working during the alpha testing phase.

Ubisoft has seemingly cleared up compatibility concerns by bringing its library into the Xbox Disc to Digital program during its current alpha testing phase. Recent reports originally indicated that major publishers like Ubisoft and Square Enix were holding out from the service, which lets players convert physical game discs into digital account licenses. Early testers on Reddit pointed out missing Assassin's Creed and Far Cry titles, sparking community discussions about publisher participation in digital-first initiatives.

Testing updates shared by Windows Central quickly put those initial concerns to rest as titles like Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed entries, and Watch Dogs 2 began registering properly with the service. The system allows users to insert an owned physical disc into an Xbox One or Series X console to bind the digital license directly to their Microsoft account, eliminating the need for the physical media afterward. If the physical copy is eventually sold or traded, the digital license transfers to the new owner accordingly.

While major publishers are still ironing out the backend details for experimental ecosystem features, this rapid turnaround suggests smooth adoption ahead. As digital ownership models continue evolving alongside traditional retail, programs bridging physical collections with modern cloud and console convenience remain a major focal point for players managing cross-platform libraries.
