Ubisoft Elevates Massive Entertainment to Oversee Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and New IP March of Giants

Ubisoft has expanded Massive Entertainment to govern the Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon brands alongside a new IP called March of Giants, following a major corporate restructuring.

Ubisoft is shaking up its internal structure once again, expanding Swedish developer Massive Entertainment into a major multi-studio governing powerhouse. As reported by Eurogamer, the studio behind The Division series, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will now lead Ubisoft's Creative House 2 cluster. This means Massive now holds the reins for the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchises across global support teams in Montreal, Paris, and Toronto. Alongside these legacy stealth and tactical brands, Massive is also developing a brand new original IP titled March of Giants.

This restructuring mirrors Ubisoft's recent creation of Vantage Studios, which was formed following a major investment to manage powerhouse franchises like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Christoph Hartmann, who previously took charge of Creative House 2, will now step in as the general manager of the expanded Massive brand. The publisher is clearly banking on centralization to streamline production and inject new life into dormant or struggling tactical series that have kept communities waiting for years.

While corporate consolidation aims to bring creative focus, this ongoing corporate overhaul has come at a severe human cost. Ubisoft has endured multiple waves of studio closures and layoffs over the past year, affecting teams in Halifax, Stockholm, Winnipeg, Belgrade, and multiple support offices globally, including previous cuts at Massive itself and Red Storm Entertainment. For players hoping for a triumphant return for Sam Fisher or the Ghost Recon squad, the new leadership structure sets a high-stakes path forward, but the industry structural turmoil behind these games remains deeply concerning for the people actually building them.
