Ubisoft Breaks Down Assassin s Creed Shadows Optimizations for Switch 2 Launch

Ubisoft details technical optimizations, performance targets, and platform-specific features for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release of Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft is bringing Assassin's Creed Shadows to Nintendo's next-generation hardware next Tuesday, giving players a detailed look at how the sprawling feudal Japan adventure scales down to portable and docked play. According to a recent deep-dive from Eurogamer, the port arrives with all previously released game updates built in, though the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion will follow in 2026. Ubisoft has confirmed that future patches will deploy alongside other platforms, ensuring the player base stays synchronized regardless of where they choose to play.

Getting a massive open-world title onto Nintendo hardware requires some heavy lifting under the hood, and Ubisoft has outlined several technical trade-offs to hit a target of stable 30 frames per second in both docked and handheld modes. The team bypassed ray-traced global illumination in favor of baked lighting to manage RAM constraints, and adjusted draw distances, texture resolutions, and NPC density in crowded urban zones to keep performance steady. DLSS integration assists with maintaining visual fidelity, while variable refresh rate support and HDR help smooth out the visual presentation on compatible displays.

Beyond raw performance adjustments, the Switch 2 version introduces some hardware-specific conveniences, including touch screen navigation for menus and map management. Cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect is fully supported, letting players move their save files back and forth if they already started their journey on PC or other consoles. Additional quality-of-life additions for the platform include native keyboard and mouse support when the console is docked, giving players flexibility in how they approach the open-world stealth and combat.
