Twitch Introduces Dual-Format Streaming for Horizontal and Vertical Broadcasts Simultaneously

Twitch's upcoming Dual Format feature lets creators broadcast in horizontal and vertical layouts simultaneously, tailoring the viewing experience for desktop and mobile users alike.

Twitch announced a major update at TwitchCon Europe 2026 that addresses the reality of modern multi-screen viewing habits. The platform is launching a new Dual Format feature next month, which allows creators to broadcast in both horizontal and vertical layouts at the same time. According to details reported by Eurogamer, desktop users will continue to see the traditional widescreen experience, while mobile viewers will automatically receive a full-screen vertical feed. Powered by Enhanced Broadcasting technology, the system relies on client-side encoding and upcoming server-side transcoding support for Partners and Affiliates to manage hardware strain.

Beyond dual-format output, the platform is rolling out several production and discovery upgrades next month. All Partners and Affiliates will gain access to 1440p (2K) streaming alongside higher bitrates, giving broadcasts a much-needed visual bump. For viewers and community members who drop in late, Stream Summaries will generate a quick text recap of what has happened so far in the broadcast. Meanwhile, creators can look forward to Auto Clips, a tool that automatically pulls and captions highlight moments from the stream to push across Clips and Stories features.

Monetization and community interaction are also getting practical expansions. Affiliates are gaining access to Bounty Board campaigns through open invites, alongside new additions like Creator Badge Drops, Mythic Trains, and Creator Sponsorships designed to simplify revenue generation. For Eurozone streamers, the inclusion of SEPA payments will finally remove currency exchange fees for lower transfer costs. Twitch is also introducing animated GIFs in chat for tier two and tier three subscribers, giving communities a familiar way to react in real time.
