Tom Hiddleston's next major streaming project has been confirmed, with the actor starring as Sir Edmund Hillary in the Apple TV biographical film Tenzing following a theatrical run in October.
Polygon reports that Tom Hiddleston is officially returning to the streaming space with a new biographical film titled Tenzing, landing on Apple TV this fall. Hiddleston will star as legendary mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary alongside Chinese actor Genden Phuntsok, who plays the Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. The cast also features Willem Dafoe as expedition leader John Hunt, rounding out a high profile lineup for the upcoming streaming release.
Directed by Jennifer Peedom, known for her acclaimed documentary work on mountain climbing, the production took the cast directly to the Himalayas and Kathmandu for an authentic shoot. Hiddleston described the project in a previous interview as the adventure of a lifetime, noting that the cast spent a grueling month immersed in the actual environment of the Khumbu Valley. The narrative will tackle the historic 1953 expedition and the famous partnership that changed mountaineering history forever.
Before dropping on Apple TV, the film is taking the traditional release route with a festival premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 15, followed by a limited theatrical run on October 9. Fans can add it to their streaming queue when it officially arrives on Apple TV on October 16. It is a solid pickup for the platform, offering prestige cinematic drama for subscribers looking for their next major weekend watch.
