Toby Fox Trolls Deltarune Fans After Toy Story 5 Trailer Drops

Undertale and Deltarune creator Toby Fox playfully trolled fans by pretending to be involved with the new Toy Story 5 trailer, reigniting a years-long community meme about Woody appearing as a secret boss.
The internet loves a good crossover meme, but indie royalty recently took things to a whole new level. Following the release of the latest Toy Story 5 trailer from Disney and Pixar, Undertale and Deltarune creator Toby Fox jumped onto social media to quote-tweet the reveal with a fake announcement claiming he was personally involved in the project. The post quickly racked up over 150,000 likes, leaving casual moviegoers completely baffled while sending the community into an absolute frenzy.
As Polygon reported in their original breakdown, this stunt was the latest chapter in a long-standing inside joke within the Deltarune fandom. Ahead of previous episodic drops, fans heavily theorized that a legally distinct version of Woody would appear as one of the game's notoriously difficult secret bosses. The absurd theory actually traces its roots back to a 2019 Tumblr post by Fox himself, featuring a deeply unsettling remix of You've Got a Friend in Me with altered lyrics about a friend inside me. When you factor in that both Toy Story 5 and Deltarune Chapter 3 deal with themes of obsolescence and outdated tech, Fox tossing a little red meat to his theory crafting community is peak developer behavior.
While this obviously means zero percent chance of Woody showing up in Pixar's next blockbuster, it keeps the momentum rolling as the community awaits the next chapters. Fox has previously indicated that Deltarune Chapter 5 is slated to drop later this year, continuing the episodic rollout of the beloved RPG. For now, the crossover remains pure meme fuel, proving once again that community engagement in indie gaming often outlives traditional marketing campaigns.
