Time-Loop Tactics? 'Every Day We Fight' From Manor Lords Publisher Drops Into Early Access - And It Looks Cheeky!

'Every Day We Fight,' a tactical RPG with a time loop mechanic from the publisher of Manor Lords, is out in early access and has players scavenging and fighting aliens in sprawling environments, trying to break the loop. With roguelite elements and tactical depth, it promises either a refreshing twist or a frustrating Groundhog Day.
Right, so the chaps over at Rock Paper Shotgun (cheers to Nic Reuben, whoever you are!) flagged this one up, and fair dinkum, it's got my attention. 'Every Day We Fight', the new tactical RPG from the publisher of 'Manor Lords', has just launched in early access. And what's the hook? A time loop, mate.
Now, time loops in games… they can be a bit hit-or-miss, can't they? Either it's a stroke of genius like in 'Outer Wilds', or it feels like a gimmick slapped on top of a perfectly serviceable game. But from what I'm seeing, 'Every Day We Fight' seems to be leaning into the roguelite aspects, meaning each loop should bring new discoveries and make you incrementally more powerful – or at least, less rubbish.
Apparently, the game throws you into sprawling, sandbag-laden environments (who knew sandbags were the pinnacle of pre-alien architecture?). You get to explore the city between battles, scavenging resources and plotting the optimal ambush points. Sounds like a decent tactical playground to me.
The interesting bit is the "push-your-luck heat meter". Each subsequent fight gets tougher, the alien riff-raff gets more numerous, but the rewards get juicier. So, do you risk it for a biscuit (or, you know, a high-powered plasma rifle), or do you play it safe and stick to mopping up the easy targets? That's the kind of tension I can get behind.
ChristopherOdd, the YouTube tactics guru (who, incidentally, stopped me from being utter trash at XCOM back in the day), is the executive producer on this. That gives me a fair bit of hope. His advice of "kill the aliens first, ask questions later" is pure gold, by the way. Trust me on this.
According to the blurb, you'll also be uncovering the checkered pasts of your fighters and figuring out just what the heck these alien invaders are up to. The usual "fight through the streets of a once-beautiful city" shenanigans. Standard post-apocalyptic fare, but if the tactical gameplay is solid, I'm willing to give it a go.
'Every Day We Fight' is available on Steam in Early Access now. Reckon it'll be a gem or a time-wasting (literally) exercise in frustration? Only one way to find out. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to insert a large slice of cake into my mouth in homage to Bill Murray.
