Time Flies...And This Game About a Fly Contemplating Existence Lands Sooner Than You Think
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
*Time Flies*, a game where you play as a fly with a variable lifespan based on your chosen country, just got a release date trailer. Seems a bit grim, but with the Shinju Village overview trailer included, and hopefully quite a thought-provoking experience.
Right then, listen up! IGN South Africa just dropped a release date trailer for *Time Flies*, and it’s less about buzzing around and more about buzzing *deep*. We're talking existential crisis levels of buzzing. This ain't your average fly simulator, mate. Think Kafka's *Metamorphosis* meets, well, a video game about a fly.
The premise is simple: you're a fly, and you're going to die. But the really clever bit? Your lifespan depends on which country you choose at the start of the game. Dark, eh? The trailer shows off gameplay snippets, featuring our fly protagonist exploring various environments, interacting (or, more accurately, *fly-teracting*) with objects, and generally just...existing.
But here's where it gets interesting. The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Shinju Village from *Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree*. Now, this may sound like something completely different, and frankly, it is. Included in the overview is the Shinju Village (Sacred Tree) which is where the characters from *Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree* reside. What are the odds? I reckon the team over at IGN wanted to include both announcements but got the wires crossed. No worries, this sort of thing happens. (I once accidentally turned my cat into a teapot. Long story.)
Back to *Time Flies*. It’s less about high scores and more about pondering the fleeting nature of existence. It asks questions like, "What would you do if you only had a few seconds/minutes/hours to live?" and it gives you control of a fly. The juxtaposition is, frankly, brilliant. It's the kind of game that makes you stop and think, which, let's be honest, is a rarity these days when most games just want you to shoot things (not that there's anything wrong with shooting things, mind you).
Whether *Time Flies* soars or splats remains to be seen, but the concept alone is intriguing enough to warrant a closer look. The release date is just around the corner, so you won't have to wait long to find out if this little fly can carry the weight of the world (or at least the weight of existential dread) on its tiny, buzzing wings. Personally, I'm cautiously optimistic. It's either going to be a surprisingly profound experience, or a hilariously depressing one. Either way, I'm in.
