The Witcher 3 Remastered shattered its all-time concurrent player record on Steam within hours of launch, driven by a free upgrade path and massive visual improvements.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has officially shattered its previous all-time concurrent player peak on Steam just hours after the launch of its long awaited remaster. According to data tracked by IGN South Africa, the updated version pushed concurrent numbers to 114,696 players on Valve's platform. That figure easily clears the previous record of 103,329 set back in January 2020, which was driven by the debut of the Netflix television series.
This new milestone represents an incredible surge for an eleven year old single player title, marking a massive 258 percent jump from the roughly 31,900 concurrent users logging on just last month. Crucially, these figures only account for PC players on Steam. Massive numbers of additional players are undoubtedly diving in across current gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, alongside other PC storefronts. Because CD Projekt Red delivered the remaster as a completely free update for existing owners, the barrier to entry was practically zero for anyone with compatible hardware.
Players are returning en masse to test out the heavy suite of visual upgrades, modern quality of life additions, and advanced graphical features like path tracing on high end rigs. While the launch did hit a minor roadblock with performance issues on AMD graphics cards, rapid driver fixes have largely smoothed out the transition. As the weekend approaches, expect these numbers to climb even higher as more players carve out time to revisit the Continent.
