The Witcher 3 Remastered Breaks Ambitious Cut Content Mod, But a Fix Is on the Way

The Witcher 3 Remastered has broken the ambitious WAR Project cut content mod, but the developers are already prepping a compatible update alongside newly added English voice acting.

The launch of The Witcher 3 Remastered brings a fresh coat of paint and plenty of technical upgrades to the decade-old RPG, but it has inevitably broken some fan-favorite community creations in the process. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, the ambitious WAR Project mod will not function on the new version right out of the box. The project aims to fully restore a plague-themed questline that CD Projekt Red cut prior to the game's original release.

Despite the temporary roadblock caused by the sheer volume of under-the-hood changes in the remaster, the modding team has been working closely with CD Projekt Red and Yigsoft for months to test the new build and its integrated mod.io support. Developer Ferroxius shared on Discord that the team is already familiar with the updated tools and expects to roll out a compatible version shortly.

Players waiting for the updated mod can look forward to some bonus content when the patch arrives. Alongside restoring the existing quests to the remastered baseline, the team plans to introduce English voice acting for the first phase of the mod within a week of launch. Once updated, the project will exclusively support the remastered version as the developers look toward their goal of a full expansion-sized release in 2027.

Moving forward, the team intends to drop phase two of the project roughly two months after the initial patch, bringing four new quests, two remade adventures, and a pair of mini quests to the table. While a broken mod on launch day is always a minor headache for players, the silver lining is a smoother technical foundation and fresh voice work to breathe new life into lost content.
