The Sims 4 is launching its Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack on February 12, introducing monarchs, dynasties, and court intrigue to the platform against the backdrop of recent controversy surrounding EA's investor buyout.
The Sims 4 is kicking off 2026 with a major addition to its ever-expanding catalog. As reported by Eurogamer, the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack arrives across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on February 12, bringing kings, queens, and court intrigue to the life simulator. Players will get to explore new worlds like the rugged Verdemar and the opulent Bellacorde while vying for the ultimate throne of Ondarion through a brand new Noble Career path.
This high-society arrival lands during a turbulent period for the franchise. Following last year's buyout of EA by an investor group including Saudi Arabia's investment fund and Donald Trump's son-in-law, high-profile content creators have pushed back over concerns regarding the new stakeholders' conservative and anti-LGBTQIA+ stances. In response, the development team has repeatedly assured the community that it retains full creative control and that the franchise's long-standing commitment to inclusivity remains unchanged.
Despite the corporate tension, the upcoming expansion packs a robust suite of gameplay additions for players invested in generational storytelling. The update introduces a fresh Dynasty System for managing heirs, outcasts, and family prestige, alongside a Scandal System where rumors can be weaponized against rivals. Add in ballroom dancing, sword fighting tournaments, and a new Swordsmanship skill, and players have plenty of mechanics to master when the expansion drops next month. Early adopters purchasing before March 5 will also receive two bonus Kit packs.
