The Pokemon Company Updates Event Policies to Crack Down on Scalpers

The Pokemon Company has implemented new rules for partnered vendors at official TCG events, banning graded cards, items worth over one thousand dollars, and Japanese Pokemon Center products to combat rampant scalping.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game has experienced a massive resurgence over the last few years, driven by wildly popular expansions like Scarlet and Violet: 151 and Paldean Fates. That incredible growth, however, brought a severe downside. Scalpers and opportunistic resellers have increasingly dominated the community space, making it frustratingly difficult for genuine players and collectors to pick up retail products or enjoy official events without dealing with inflated secondary market prices.

To combat this ongoing issue, The Pokemon Company has officially rolled out a strict new policy for vendors partnered with its official events. According to Game Rant, the updated rules went into effect at the Indianapolis Regional. Partnered vendors are now completely barred from selling graded cards at these official gatherings. The policy also prohibits the sale of individual items valued at more than one thousand dollars, alongside a blanket ban on most products originating from the Japanese Pokemon Center.

These changes represent a meaningful step toward protecting the player and collector community from predatory market practices. By cutting off major event venues as a marketplace for graded slabs and high-ticket speculative items, organizers are shifting the focus back to where it belongs. Fans come to these spaces to play, trade, and connect over the hobby, not to navigate a high-stakes luxury auction house. While secondary market challenges will not disappear overnight, curbing on-site profiteering is a welcome win for everyday community members.
