The New Museum Pikachu Pokémon Card Aims to Keep Scalpers at Bay

A new oversized Pikachu promotional card tied to a London Natural History Museum pop-up implements strict purchase limits to curb reseller hoarding, while supporting the museum's scientific research.
The Pokémon Company is teaming up with London's Natural History Museum for an exclusive pop-up shop, and it comes with a major collectible release. Running from January 26 to April 19 both on-site and online, the collaboration celebrates the upcoming release of Pokecology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokemon Ecology, a stunning book written by researchers with doctoral degrees in animal behavior and ecology. The main draw for collectors is a special oversized Pikachu promo card handed out as a gift with purchase.
While limited-edition promotional cards usually trigger an immediate feeding frenzy among secondary market resellers, this release has some built-in guardrails. Purchase limits are in place, and the card will only be available through the museum pop-up, select UK retailers, and not via the online Pokémon Center store. Tickets to the physical pop-up are already sold out, but the strict distribution rules mean scalpers will likely have a much harder time hoarding massive inventories than usual.
Beyond the card and the new book, fans can pick up museum-themed stationery, plushes, and artwork. It is also worth noting that all profits from the museum shop and online store directly support the institution's charitable mission, including ongoing scientific research.
