The Lord of the Rings Online Dates Wolves of Mordor Expansion for October 21

The Lord of the Rings Online is expanding on October 21 with The Wolves of Mordor, adding new regions, werewolf enemies, and updated progression and housing systems.

Standing Stone Games has officially set an October 21 release date for The Lord of the Rings Online expansion, The Wolves of Mordor. First announced earlier this year, the update sends players beyond Gorgoroth into the largely unexplored region of Draugardh. Rather than focusing solely on post-Sauron cleanup, the expansion leans into a darker, creature-heavy theme featuring werewolves, wolf-revering Easterlings, and a newly unleashed wolf-wraith.

Alongside the new zones of Heledhris, Parth Rhavas, and Nan Ogol, the update introduces notable system upgrades for long-term players. The new Survival Instincts mechanic brings fresh tactics, lessons, skill sets, and enhancements to character progression. Meanwhile, the Neighbors system expands social features by letting players invite companions into their homes, building relationships through daily missions, stories, and shared gifts.

Coming just in time for the Halloween season, this release gives MMORPG veterans a strong narrative and mechanical reason to return to Middle-earth. As live-service games continue to find ways to deepen player investment through meaningful social systems and fresh content drops, this expansion proves that even long-running virtual worlds can still carve out compelling new territory.
