The Finals Just Dropped a Mid-Season Nuke: New Mode, Mad Melee Tweaks, and Server Crashers Banned!

Embark Studios dropped a hefty mid-season update for *The Finals*, bringing a new 5v5 Super Cashball mode, a tonne of balance tweaks (especially to melee), and a crackdown on server crashers, not to mention a wheel of new content.
Right, so Embark Studios just yeeted a massive mid-season update into *The Finals*, and bloody hell, it's a doozy. Season 7's already been smashing it with a split-arena map and some funky new gadgets, but they're not resting on their laurels, are they? (Or maybe they're powered by some seriously strong coffee. Either way...). Huge hat tip to Kyle Knight over at Game Rant for catching all of this first!
First up, the big one: Super Cashball. Imagine a 5v5 game of… well, Cashball, but with more *oomph*. You're chucking a ball into the opposing team's goal, but passing and charging it up racks up extra points. Sounds simple, right? Wrong! The loadouts are locked, demanding teamwork, and stepping into the enemy's penalty zone gets you 'Glitched,' disabling gadgets and ball-handling. They've even built a whole new arena, the CA$HBALL STADIUM, just for this madness. Expect chaos, mate.
But that's not all, oh no. VAIIYA, one of *The Finals'* sponsors, has chucked in the Super Cashball Wheel. Complete daily challenges, spin the wheel, win prizes. Classic, right? But everyone gets a free spin to start, and snagging all 20 prizes unlocks the Zone Enforcer Set. Shiny loot always draws a crowd.
Now, for the spicy stuff: Melee. It's been a hot topic, and Embark's Design Director, Matt, chimed in with a proper essay on their vision. Melee's staying, but they're clamping down on 'tech' (aka exploiting bugs) that throws things out of whack. The Sword's getting a buff to compensate for squashing some dodgy 'super dash' shenanigans. It's a tricky balance – making melee viable without it being a complete pain in the backside to play against.
Speaking of balance, the Archetypes are getting a shake-up. Light's now rockin' the Evasive Dash and XP-54 by default, while Medium gets the Explosive Mine instead of the Glitch Trap. Heavy gets a Compact Reflector Sight on their M60. Gadgets are also getting some love (or nerfs, depending on your playstyle). Defibrillator charge time's up, Nullifier bullets go through Nullified players (finally!), and Healing effects are now team-colored. No more accidentally healing the enemy, eh?
There's also a *serious* server crash exploit that's been patched. Embark's permanently banned the culprits and is returning lost Ranked Tournament rewards to those affected. Fair play, I reckon. Don't be a tool; play fair.
And, of course, loads of bug fixes and tweaks across maps, weapons, and UI. That KS-23 is now a hybrid hitscan-projectile weapon, making it more reliable up close. The Sword's lunge attack is getting some much-needed constraint to stop players spinning like a top. Good riddance, I say.
To cap it off, new voices and a Lotus Reaper Set with 2400 Multibucks are live, and a Twitch Drops campaign where you can earn Chuck the Ball (and other themed items) is also running. Just tune into any streamer playing *The Finals* and watch to earn.
So, there you have it. A massive update that's aiming to keep *The Finals* fresh, fair, and frantic. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a Cashball game to win. Or at least, miserably fail at trying to win. But hey, that’s half the fun, innit?
