Polygon details the release schedule and major features for The Finals Season 9, Dragon Rising, which introduces a new map, an eight-player mode, and player-choice reward systems.
Embark Studios is ready to shake up the arena once again. According to a recent report by Polygon, Season 9 of The Finals officially drops on Wednesday, December 10, bringing a heavy dose of Chinese folklore and neon aesthetics to the destruction-heavy shooter. Dubbed Dragon Rising, the upcoming update introduces Fangwai City, a sprawling new map featuring dense residential blocks, historic temples, and a massive holographic dragon towering over the urban skyline.
The update is bringing some notable structural changes to the gameplay loop beyond just a fresh coat of paint. Players can dive into Point Break, a new eight-versus-eight mode featuring shifting frontlines and objective-based waves that demand sharp coordination. Embark is also overhauling player progression by expanding the World Tour page so that matches across all game modes contribute to your seasonal rank. On top of that, the reward system is getting a player-first makeover, letting you pick your specific unlocks rather than grinding blindly down a linear track.
Destruction physics are also getting a subtle rollout upgrade, with the game's signature structural impact mechanics gradually expanding to cover every map throughout the season, starting with Fangwai City. Depending on your region, the update rolls out between December 10 and December 11. Be sure to check local time zones to coordinate your squad before the queue opens up.
