The Game Awards 2025 delivered a massive lineup of trailers, surprises, and long-awaited announcements, proving once again that the December showcase is the ultimate focal point for the industry. Larian Studios officially pulled back the curtain on its next major project following the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3. Titled simply Divinity, the studio is returning to its roots for what is being billed as its largest game to date. Star Wars fans also had plenty to celebrate with the reveal of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a third-person action game spearheaded by industry veteran Casey Hudson that serves as a spiritual successor to classic RPGs. Alongside it, Star Wars: Galactic Racer brought high-speed arcade action to the table with a 2026 release window.
Survival horror and action heavyweights also dominated the stage with major franchise updates. Remedy Entertainment officially announced Control Resonant, shifting the perspective to Dylan Faden and moving the weird science fiction action out of the Oldest House and into a nightmarish Manhattan. Capcom confirmed that Leon S. Kennedy will return alongside Grace in Resident Evil Requiem, blending classic survival horror with action-heavy sequences. Meanwhile, Blizzard detailed Diablo 4's upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion, promising a massive overhaul to loot, crafting, and endgame loops alongside the return of the fan-favorite Paladin class.
Lara Croft is also making a major comeback with two separate projects mapped out for the coming years. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will reimagine the original adventure with dinosaurs and a modernized look arriving in 2026, followed by an entirely new entry titled Tomb Raider: Catalyst in 2027. For players juggling multiple platforms across PC and current-gen consoles, the sheer volume of high-profile titles heading into 2026 and beyond guarantees that our backlogs will remain thoroughly packed for the foreseeable future.
