Terra Invicta Is Expanding Its Scope With Two New Alternate History Scenarios in July

Grand strategy game Terra Invicta is receiving its first expansion, Dark Skies, on July 27. Developed by Pavonis Interactive, the DLC adds two new historical scenarios, including a 2003 geopolitical setting and a post nuclear wasteland alternate timeline, alongside fresh spaceship aesthetics.

If you thought orchestrating global geopolitics and fighting off extraterrestrial threats in Terra Invicta was already a massive time sink, developers Pavonis Interactive and publisher Hooded Horse are about to make your campaigns even more complex. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the XCOM inspired grand strategy game is getting its very first expansion pack called Dark Skies. Scheduled to launch on July 27 across Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, the DLC introduces two distinct starting scenarios that completely change how players approach the impending alien threat.

The first scenario rewinds the clock to 2003 at the height of the US led invasion of Iraq. Giving players an extra twenty years of prep time sounds like an advantage, but this era brings its own unique set of hurdles. Global society is deeply skeptical of UFO warnings, forcing you to navigate geopolitical friction and early offworld infiltrators while the main alien fleet remains decades away. It trades rapid fire action for a much longer, methodical build up on Earth, introducing fresh tech trees and research projects tailored to the early noughties aesthetic.

For those who prefer their strategy titles with a heavy dose of apocalypse, the second scenario is titled Broken Earth. This alternate timeline imagines a horrific outcome where the Cuban Missile Crisis turned the Cold War hot, leaving humanity fractured and struggling to rebuild a century later. Beyond the narrative hooks, the expansion also treats fleet builders to fresh visual styles for spaceships, pulling inspiration from authentic NASA design principles alongside gritty industrial hard sci fi visuals. It is a compelling excuse to finally nail down that asteroid base before the drop date arrives.
