Tencent Pulls Light of Motiram From Steam Following Sony Lawsuit Settlement

Sony and Tencent have settled their legal dispute over Light of Motiram, resulting in the game being delisted from Steam and Epic Games Store following accusations of copying Horizon Zero Dawn.

The legal battle surrounding Light of Motiram has officially come to a close. According to a report by Polygon, Sony and Tencent have agreed to dismiss their ongoing lawsuit regarding the futuristic survival game. As part of the resolution, the project has been completely pulled from major storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside the deletion of its promotional trailers and marketing materials.

The controversy began in early 2025 when Tencent revealed Light of Motiram. The game immediately sparked widespread comparisons to Horizon Zero Dawn due to its robotic beasts, base building mechanics, and a red-haired protagonist sporting a similar aesthetic to Aloy. Matters escalated when Sony discovered a paper trail showing Tencent had previously pitched a mobile Horizon spin-off sharing several core concepts with the project. Sony subsequently filed a lawsuit accusing Tencent of intellectual property infringement and sought substantial statutory damages.

Tencent initially pushed back against the claims, arguing that Horizon Zero Dawn utilized generic tropes and that the game was still years away from its planned release. However, the studio later began altering promotional materials to distance the project from Sony's franchise before halting public testing plans altogether. While court filings show both companies have sought a dismissal with prejudice to prevent future litigation, it remains unclear if Tencent will eventually retool the concept under a new name.
