Ted: The Animated Series Lands on Peacock This December with Original Cast

Peacock has announced an eight-episode premiere date for Ted: The Animated Series, featuring the return of the original movie cast and a narrative jump twelve years into the future.

The foul-mouthed plush bear is making the jump to animation, as Peacock officially announces an eight-episode order for Ted: The Animated Series, scheduled to premiere on December 17. Created by Seth MacFarlane alongside Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, this new cartoon serves as a direct sequel to the 2012 and 2015 live-action feature films rather than the recent prequel series. Additional episodes are already slated to drop in 2027, giving fans plenty of runtime to look forward to.

Fans of the original movies will find a lot of familiar voice work here, with Seth MacFarlane returning to voice Ted alongside Mark Wahlberg as his longtime best friend John. Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Barth also reprise their respective roles as Sam and Tami-Lynn, while newcomers Kyle Mooney and Liz Richman join the main cast. The official synopsis places John and Ted twelve years after the events of the second movie, living as neighbors with their own families and struggling through dead-end jobs while keeping their chaotic friendship alive.

While Peacock previously housed the live-action television adaptation, the shift to animation makes plenty of sense given the heavy visual effects costs associated with rendering a living teddy bear for live-action television. Animation studio Rough Draft Studios is handling the production duties for the upcoming series. For those following the broader entertainment landscape, it is another notable example of a major IP pivoting formats to sustain momentum across streaming platforms without the massive overhead of live-action CGI production.
