Take-Two Shuts Down Ambitious Fan-Made GTA 5 Port for Switch and Android

A promising fan-made port of Grand Theft Auto 5 for the Nintendo Switch and Android devices has been canceled following legal action by Take-Two Interactive.

An impressive fan project that successfully brought Grand Theft Auto 5 natively to the original Nintendo Switch and planned an Android release has officially been canceled. Lead modder Mojso announced the shutdown following swift legal pressure from Take-Two Interactive, bringing a sudden end to what many players viewed as an incredible technical achievement. The unofficial port made major waves in September by getting the massive open-world title and even portions of GTA Online running on hybrid hardware.

Trouble began brewing for the development team in late September when their dedicated Discord server was banned for copyright infringement. According to reports, the project utilized leaked source code, which all but guaranteed a heavy-handed response from Rockstar's parent company. Take-Two is famously protective of its intellectual property, leaving community-led ports and engine rebuilds with a very predictable expiration date.

For now, Nintendo hardware owners remain locked out of modern entries in the franchise. While older classics and the original Red Dead Redemption eventually found their way to hybrid consoles, heavier titles like GTA 4 and GTA 5 remain exclusive to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. As the community looks ahead to future hardware and waits for official port news, this ambitious mobile and Switch experiment is officially dead in the water.
